It is with deep regret and sadness that the ASL announces the passing of Sir Michael Atiyah.
Sir Michael died on the morning of January 11, 2019 at the age of 89.
The world has lost an illustrious mathematician, Lebanon has lost one of its pre-eminent emigrant scientists, and the ASL has lost a founding member who was a great supporter of the academy and its mission.
